Mit Teil III kam Harald Vogels Edition zum Abschluss. Bereichert wird Teil III auch wieder durch ausführlichere Erläuterungen des Herausgebers. Diesmal stehen im Mittelpunkt zwei kürzere Texte, die über den Rahmen üblicher Einleitungen hinausgehen und grundlegende Fragen zur Musik für Tasteninstrumente im frühen 17. Jahrhundert berühren. In Zu Gebrauch und Struktur der liturgischen Sätze beschreibt der Herausgeber die in Teil III enthaltenen Stücke im Hinblick auf die Aufführungspraxis der Entstehungszeit. Bisher kaum bekannte Quellen geben konkrete Hinweise zur Ausführung der choralgebundenen Sätze. In seinem zweiten Text äußert sich Vogel eingehender Zur Registrierungspraxis und rundet damit eine editorische Leistung hohen Ranges ab.
In 2001, Harald Vogel brought his edition to a close with Part III. Reflecting the work order of the first edition of this epoch-making collection (1624), this volume contains Magnificat settings and other liturgically related organ works by Samuel Scheidt (SSWV 139-158).
Part III also features extensive commentaries by the editor. The focus is now on two succinct texts that reach beyond the framework of customary introductions and touch upon fundamental questions concerning music for keyboard instruments in the early 17th century. In the "Notes on the Use and Structure of the Liturgical Pieces," the editor comments upon the pieces contained in Part III with reference to the performance practice at their time of origin. Sources that were heretofore practically unknown supply concrete information on the execution of the chorale-related pieces. In his "Notes on the Registration Practice," Vogel delves into the art of registration, thus rounding off an editorial accomplishment of the highest caliber.
