In late November 2022 I happened upon a film of the remarkable eleven-year-old Polish harpist Zarina Zaradna and was overwhelmed by the depth of emotion in her playing.
Having introduced myself to Zarina and her mother I was astonished a few days later to receive a photo from them in Paris. They were in Rue de la Harpe and Zarina was standing beneath a street sign in exactly the same attitude as I am in a photo they had seen on my website. So touched was I by this gesture of friendship that I could respond in no other way than by composing this little Parisian-style valse for Zarina, which I completed a month later on New Year’s Day, 2023.
