Henri Marteau's Partita op. 42/2, published in 1934, is a brilliant contribution to the sparse literature for flute and viola duo. Taking the form of a Suite of old dances, the work is a gem, a masterstroke in expression, melody and instrumental finesse. We have edited it according to the printed 23-page first edition of the score 'in the composer's possession' (no publisher) and the handwritten set of parts. The sources lie in the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek München, Musikabteilung, under shelfmark 4 Mus. pr. 60288 (score) and Mus. ms. 13763 (parts). The version of the handwritten parts is identical with the score, whose title includes a dedicatee 'ôTill Vännen Paul Hagemann'.
