The famous Vaccai singing method, published in 1833, is now proposed in three handy volumes, one for each register. The contents have thus been slimmed down and suited to each register: soprano and tenor; mezzosoprano and baritone; contralto and bass. Vaccai's method introduced a major innovation at the time: it used vocal exercises based on short arias instead of the solfège exercises favoured by other composers/teachers. In other words, original short compositions, though these were somewhat simpler and more straightforward than a standard 'da capo' aria. What drove Vaccai to come up with this new method was his need to compose for his pupils shorter versions of the long pieces typically found in the common repertoire. This method deals with all the main topics of vocal technique.
