The Czech composer Katerina Ruzicková began her studies in composition with Jarmila Mazourová, studied musicology, aesthetics and composition in Brno, took part in diverse master classes and received schoolarships in Heidelberg and Karlsruhe (studies with Wolfgang Rhim). In the year 2003 she was invited to Heidelberg as a composer in residence. "Mährische Echos" (2005) (Moravian Echoes) have been inspired by the Moravian folk music as regards melody, rhythm and modality. Folklore elements and fancy ideas of new music are cleverly interwoven with the structures remaining clear and easy to comprehend.
