This piece is meant to jazzily reflect the famous theme from Niccolò Paganini's 24th Capriccio for solo violin. The inspiration for writing it came from a virtuoso and spirited pianist: she requested an encore that was supposed to sound like an improvisation for a performance of Sergej Rachmaninoff's Paganini Rhapsody for piano and orchestra. I think that this idea is a wonderful opportunity for classical pianists to get acquainted with the world of jazz. As it turns out the composition is a virtuosic tour de force through the history of jazz piano playing in six minutes.
