Luigi Orselli (19th century, ca. 1830? - after 1880?) was an Italian bassoonist and composer. Bassoon student at the Royal Musical Institute of Lucca, he immediately showed promising instrumental skills. In 1852 he became second bassoon in the R. Orchestra of Parma together with Luigi Beccali (1809-1886) first bassoon and historic representative of the R. School of music and remained there until 1875… The work entitled Fantasia/ for/Bassoon/ with Piano accompaniment/ on the opera Un ballo in maschera/ by Verdi/ composed and dedicated/ to his friend/ Augusto Ricci/ Eminent Amateur/ by/ Luigi Orselli/ Bassoon Professor in the Parma Orchestra, dates back to 1861; the themes unfold according to a well-balanced trend of slow and fast movements and the piano does not only play the role of accompaniment. The dedication to the "amateur" friend is not synonymous with simplicity since Fantasy requires mature skill and consolidated technique.
