The children's pieces for solo piano by Francisco Mignone (1897-1986) are like little gems of our music, that's why we have assembled here a series of them under the title Children's Treasures. Marked by great inventiveness and musicality, these pieces are a real delight to their listeners, children or adults, and also stand out for their didactic character for teaching the instrument. The composer's dive into the children's universe to compose in such an elaborate and fun way is surprising, often using references outside the standard terminology, such as mais devagar (slower), bem alegre (very happy), com alegria (with joy), zangada (angry), pulando (jumping), and
com esperteza (smartly), and even his most playful recommendation: "Repeat, playing the right hand an octave higher and the left an octave lower. Play with your eyes closed. Can you do it, Anete?"
We have kept here all of these indications as they appeared in the original editions, published by their respective publishers. This edition features a presentation and technical review by Maria Josephina Mignone, who recorded all of Francisco Mignone's children's work on CD, and a foreword by pianist and teacher Talita Gondim.
