The song " An den Abendstern " op.6 resulted according to a poem of Caroline Leonhardt-Lyser in1839.
It is dedicated to the Prague singer Carl Strakaty (1801 - 1868). Strakaty sang at the Prague Ständetheater as of 1825. He became an honorary citizen of Prague in 1858.
On April 18th, 1840 Strakaty probably listed hornist Johann Janatka to perform this work with him in Prague for the first time. (the song is only named as "a new song of Skroup"). It pleased such a lot that it had to be repeated in 1841. In the same year this work was published for the first time with Johann Hoffmann in Prague.
