That pleasing piece has an interesting history: Mendelssohn's composition for piano has been discovered posthumously in 1859. It inspired the Italian composer Martucci to transcribe it for violoncello and piano. Antonio Torriano - according to Verdi "il primo fagottista del mondo" - saw the suitablilty of that piece for "his" instrument and commissioned an arrangement for bassoon. This manuscript is the basis for the present edition.
