Jordi Cervelló is one of the most renowned composers in our country. Until the last days before his passing in 2022, he was a prolifi c author who composed intensely. However, there were still some works that the master left written in manuscript and that his relatives have bequeathed to see the light.
The work we present here is a posthumous edition of his last trio, titled as Trio Vesprada [Sunset Trio]. Dedicated to the formation of violin, clarinet and piano, it is divided into four movements:
• The first is a slow, contemplative movement combining an Andantino leggiero interspersed with slower moments in Adagio tempo.
• The second is a kind of Scherzo of imitative character and in compound time, reminiscent of the master’s more dance-like music with more reflective interludes.
• The third movement is again an Adagio characterized by long values and vaporous harmonies, where the singing is equally divided among the three members of the ensemble.
• The last movement is agitated and surprising, and ends with a highly exalted fortissimo.
The composer wrote it during the last days of his life in Les Escaules. The work is dedicated to the Trio Kórena, with whom he had worked on the creation process and who premiered it on July 26, 2023 in La Bella Lucca (Italy).
