Franz Josef Moser (* 20. 3. 1880 in Vienna, 27. 3. 1939 ibid) studied music from 1895-1901 at the Konservatorium der Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna as well as philosophy at the university. From 1901-1904 he was Kapellmeister in Darmstadt, Troppau, Znaim, Pilsen and Munich; from 1904 - 1926 and from 1929 - 1932 he was a double-bass player in the orchestra of the Wiener Hofoper (today's State opera) and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1910 Moser became a teacher at the Vienna University and taught music theory at the Neuen Wiener Konservatorium. From 1919 he gave piano lessons at the Akademie für Musik und darstellende Kunst and between 1926 and 1929 he was choral master at the Vienna State Opera. Moser, who ran the Richard Wagner-Verein for a short time, composed five symphonies, chamber music, works for piano, choral music and lieder. The Trio op. 38 has been published in 1926 for the first time. The cor anglais part can be replaced by a bassoon, for which we have enclosed an additional bassoon part.
