This quartet is made up of various linked but distinct sections, and is to be played with a strong feeling of rhythm. After a brief introduction where all four instrumentalist play a bar each, as if stating an opinion, there is a more uniform section including repeated quavers diminishing in volume to create an echoing effect.
This is then followed by a completely different section, with the solo Baritone setting the scene with a rhythmic four bar riff. This is then repeated while the Tenor joins in with a contrasting and more complicated counter melody, with the Alto and Soprano interjecting. After a sudden break, there follows a much more tranquil and melodic section, becoming gradually more contrapuntal. All the parts are independent, but interconnected.
