The book contains tangos of the 'old guard', that is, the original tangos from the first half of the 20th century. Dietmar Kres is not only an exceptional guitarist, but also a true aficionado who has spent much time in Argentina and has produced these arrangements with much familiarity with the subject. 'The practice of performing vocal as well as instrumental tangos in a variety of musical settings with various instruments - solo or in large ensembles - is very common in Argentina and Uruguay, the two homes of the tango. The present works should not be considered emblematic of a certain era or style; they simply are some of my favourite pieces. It has always been a primary concern of mine to convey the vitality and expressiveness inherent in this music as faithfully as possible with my instrument.' (Dietmar Kres)
