Suite primerenca, which was written for wind quintet, is partly an adaptation and reworking of an old piece that was originally written for the piano. The music is free from any speculative concerns, with no intention other than to convey what is implied by each of the titles themselves. Portada is therefore an introductory march; Madrigal is a cradle song; Rondalla, a classic children's tale; Nocturno, a sad love song; and Festiva is a watercolour depicting local festivities. Popular roots can be sensed throughout the work and are particularly clear in the modal turns and ethnic nature of the themes.
