The present Quartet in G major is printed here for the first time. It was probably composed between 1780 and 1785. It focuses on the upper part with the flute being rather virtuous. Together with the flute the two violas (instead of violin II and viola) cause a welcome change of timbre. The diverting character of this work, whose wealth of melodies is being tamed by a classical strictness of form, promises the interpreters lots of amusement, and it makes the piece a discovery for the repertoire of professional and semi-professional musicians. .
