Originally klezmer was played by the klezmorim, musicians who travelled through Eastern Europe absorbing elements from the local musical culture. Thus Klezmer became a melting pot of various musical styles. This music found its way to America, where it was at its height in the 1930s. In the 1970s klezmer music was rediscovered, af ter which it came back to Europe trom America.
