This work was created in 1919. While a student at the Paris Conservatory , Lili Boulanger submits this work to her teachers of counterpoint and fugue Georges Caussade and of composition Paul Vidal.
The score is called " short piece " and is intended for the flute accompanied by the piano. The use of this instrument makes it possible to invest the world of Debussy. The young lady composer also reinforces this link by quoting the Prelude to the afternoon of a faun in its final section.
The work will be released by the Ricordi Editions in 1919 after Lili Boulanger passed away.
On this occasion, the short piece will be shifted to Nocturn and the alternative use of a solo violin is mentioned.
Through this transcription and adaptation Florent Moriconi pays homage to Lili Boulanger and at the same time salutes the talent of the composer in a work perfected suited to the saxophone.
