The only publication of the priest-organist of Saint-Barthélemy in Paris, Pierre Dandrieu’s noëls were written for use at Christmas, with occasional pieces for use at Easter and other feasts. The book contains 42 pieces or remarkable variety based on such popular songs as À la venue de noël and the substantial Chanson de Saint-Jacques.
This Cantando critical edition by musicologist Jon Baxendale examines Dandrieu’s life and provides an overview of musical life in Paris’s ecclesiastical institutions and provides notes on performance practice and registration in both English and French.
