Luigi Gatti (1740-1817) has been court music director in Salzburg for many years. During this time he was also a teacher for the chapel boys. Perhaps, MUSICA ISTRUMENTALE published here for the first time, was written for the latter. The relatively simple nice and short pieces which are concepted progressively and are written in wind-friendly E flat major could be good reasons for that. The clarinet is the leading part, the horns and the bassoon form the fundament and bass for the quartets composed around 1800. May this rediscovery inspire the ensembles to perfom them!
