Máté Bella's piano piece Judas was composed for the STUDIO 5 creative group's concert 'Liszt In Another Way' in 2022, dedicated to pianist Fülöp Ránki. The composition is a paraphrase based on the opera-oratorio Bella Passion. In the libretto of the stage play written by András Almási-Tóth Judas faces the consequences of his betrayal and wants to return the thirty pieces of silver, but his increasingly dark thoughts end up committing suicide. At the same time, the piano piece does not have a specific program of this kind: the work is post-minimalist process music, characterized by clean primary piano textures, tonal solutions and even pulsations.
