In addition to the Overture this nineteenth-century arrangement contains the most popular arias from Mozart's opera. Arrangements such as these served a dual purpose: they enabled a broad public to play the loveliest arias themselves, and provided an extra source of income for the composer or arranger. Such was even the case with the really great composers.

As Mozart wrote to his father: 'I now face a not inconsiderable task. By Sunday week my opera [Die Entführung] must be arranged for wind instruments, otherwise someone else will beat me to it and profit instead of me.

The best loved aria’s from  Don Giovanni in two versions: for two flutes and bassoon or cello.
The aria’s come in their purest form: no introduction, no variations.

Naast de Ouverture treffen we in deze negentiende-eeuwse bewerking de meest populaire aria's uit Mozarts opera aan. Dit soort bewerkingen hadden tweeërlei doel: het grote publiek in staat te stellen om de mooiste aria's ook zelf te spelen en een extra bron van inkomsten voor de componist of bewerker. Dit gold zelfs voor de grootste componisten.

Zo schrijft Mozart aan zijn vader: 'Nun habe ich keine geringe arbeit. bis Sonntag acht tag muß meine Opera [Die Entführung] auf die harmonie [d.w.z. voor blazersensemble] gesetzt seyn -sonst kommt mir einer bevor- und hat anstatt meiner den Profit davonà'.
