Anamorphoses means 'an image distorted unless it is viewed from a special angle or with a special instrument'. Anamorphoses by Bernard Andrès (1979) is very different compositionally than many of his subsequent, tonal works that are heard around the world. This piece explores various harpistic special effects interspersed with bisbigliando, grace note and chord sections that get loader and softer, loader and softer and then die away.

Very similar in style to cameo compositions by modern, non-harpist composers, Anamorphoses offers the distinct advantage that is was written by someone who actually plays the instrument. Everything on the page is doable. There are no esoteric and bizarrely difficult rhythms. Best of all the effects are fun to play. If you're looking for (or need) a "modern" piece to round out a program, at 6'30", Anamorphoses may be just the thing. Advanced level.
