Louis Spohr composed the 6 Deutsche Lieder Op.72 in Kassel in the summer of 1826. These miniatures offer us a compendium of the features typical of Spohr's music, particularly the classical, almost Mozartian quest for equilibrium, and the more romantic harmonic experimentation, rich with chromaticism. As wat the custom of the day, both the original version of the Sechs Deutsche Lieder Op.72 for voice and piano and the transcription for voice and guitar were published at the same time. The autor of the guitar transcription changed the key of two Lieder reletive to the piano version, so as to better suit the instrument's possibilities. The original version of Lied No.2 (Schifferlied der Wasserfee) is actually in E-flat major, and No.3 (Ghasel) is in A-flat major. The fingering given in the original edition has been faithfully maintained.
