Harpist Robert Nicolas Charles Bochsa (1789-1856) studied at the Paris Conservatoire and was appointed harpist to the Imperial Orchestra in France. A wonderful composer of solo works and operas, he was a renowned teacher and harpist, but his rather questionable personal life (he dabbled in counterfeiting and eventually eloped with the wife of a fellow composer) led to his relocation to London 1817, where he helped to found the Royal School of Music and taught acclaimed harpist Elias Parish-Alvars. Bochsa's etudes for harp are standard technical studies for student harpists. Some of these etudes are even suitable as solo works, due to their lyricism and harmonic structure. Suitable for beginner-intermediate pedal harp or lever harp tuned in E-flat.
