Product description

Alexander Scriabin (1872-1915) was born in Moscow and studied there with Tanaiev and Arensky. A brilliant pianist and prolific composer, he became a protog'' of Belaiev, who published his music and planned his recital tours. He was enthusiastically championed by the conductor Koussevitsky, and as a result toured America in 1906-7. The year before his death he played in London. His earlier works reveal the influence of Chopin and Liszt. In later life he became obsessed by the writings of Nietzsche and the tenets of theosophy, and as he embraced more and more strange beliefs, his music (which had never sounded particularly Russian) moved into wholly new territory as he developed his own obscure harmonic language based on these beliefs.
These three preludes were originally composed for the piano between 1890 and 1895, and are typical of the composer''s earlier style.
